Dog days of summer
So, it's been a month since my last entry and frankly not much of significance has happened at the McNaughton Nerius household since then. Here are a few bullets"
Peace to you and to those you love.
Feel free to write, call or drop by.
Mary, Rob and Nora
- Mary's transplant is doing very well. Her guts are not. After months of struggle we have found IntestiNew, a supplement that is designed to repair damaged intestinal lining. It has been Dr. Robin's opinion that in addition to killing her entire immune system the chemo did it's trick on her intestinal mucosa. And as the Celiac is her Achilles heal so to speak, the intestinal area will be the most difficult area to recover. Her hair is coming back and she is looking better every day. She is tired of feeling "just not right" but she's doing everything she can to persevere.
- Mary's friend and Daisy's "BFF" Penny comes by pretty regularly to walk Mary and Daisy around the block and to get the latest gossip from Dist. 205. They love to look at the new job postings I print off for them which look like a desperate district determined to reinvent the wheel. We really appreciate her visits.
- We should be able to take our trip to Pennsylvania to see Bette, Mary's Mom sometime next week. We will probably stay at Aunt Nancy and Uncle Sam's house. Aunt Debbie may be there as well. Our stay will be limited but we feel it will be worth the risk.
- Nora got A's on both of her summer classes and has renewed her loved of reading. She says she has read about twenty books this summer. I love hearing her discuss plans on h0w she will use various stories and films in her classroom some day. Her classes really gave her a solid vision for her future as a teacher. Good luck and God Bless her.
- Nora and I had a very successful eighteen holes of golf the other day. I scored an 84 and Nora got a combination of Goods, Very Goods with one Stupendous and only one or two Sucks. I don't think the PGA will adopt this scoring system anytime soon, but it was very effective in contributing to the enjoyment of our time together. As a side note, I thought I had completely blown it with her and golf about eight years ago when we did not have a particularly good experience on the links. Thankfully time and maturity contributes greatly to the healing process.
I have been taking guitar lessons this summer and will probably continue indefinitely. I have been playing my cousin Joan's old Mosrite that I bought from her when I was laid off in 1980. It plays well but I kind of fell in love with a Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster in pearl.
It's a beauty and I just had to have it. I found it on sale at a Guitar Center in one of our suburbs. Anyway, it's a great thing to study and a great way to exercise those aging brain cells. And who knows, I may become a Rock Star when I retire in 2010. I can take Mary on tour. At least she will know all the lyrics.- Nora will be preparing for her fall term in London and Berlin and I am getting ready for a year of library, auditorium management and set construction. It's just coming too fast.
Peace to you and to those you love.

Glad to hear that Mary continues to get better and better. She's quite the inspiration.
And I love that you're taking guitar lessons. I've been wanting to start them, too.

Good to hear the news. In hearing (yes I am reading it, but I always 'hear' your voice when I read the blog) you describe your days, I think that is what I am looking forward to the most in retirement, unstructured time, to schedule as I see fit, or not. Of course my retirement from here will also mean that my Samyama Practice will be ready to go, and that is developing nicely.
Nora's fall term sounds like an exciting adventure.
We are enjoying beach weather, and gpoing to the beach as much as we can. there is nothing like coming home from work, walking less than a block to the beach and playing in the waves for an hour or so. Pete, Jessica, Wes and Owen are planning a visit in August. We cant wait.
We have been going back to Raleigh every 2 or 3 weeks to check on our house and take care of things there.
Glad to hear Mary is making progress, and I hope the new stuff works.
much love to all,
Nancy
