Birthday!
"They say it's your birthday".
The transplant is complete. Mary received about 36 CCs of her previously harvested stem cells at about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday the 29th of April. The procedure involved thawing three bags of cells that had been frozen in liquid nitrogen for about nine years. Then Karen Samuels, a Jamaican Nurse Practitioner whose passion is hematology and hema oncology came in and reintroduced the cells through Mary's portacath. Much discussion ensued, mostly about Ms. Samuels life story. Though drugged up enough to make a Grateful Dead fan ready for a concert, Mary chatted and "interviewed" for the whole two hour procedure. Once done, we both took naps.
As the days leading up to the transplant were referred to as minus days, the days following the transplant are viewed as plus days, hence the birthday.
Last night, Mary was more her old self than I have seen her in since she went in.
Nora is coming in this weekend and I am both looking forward to her company and for the opportunity for her to visit with her mom.
Gotta run,
Peace to you and to those you love,
Rob

Great News! Spring is a great time for those cells to germinate and flower, nurtured by science and prayers. I'll keep the prayers coming your way.
Love,
Nancy

The Hudson gang has been accessing your blog almost daily to read up on the progress of "Mother Mary". We are thrilled to learn the procedure is complete and continue to pray for Mary's return to good health. We also wish you, Rob and Nora strength as you help Mary battle this situation.
With our best wishes! Bruce, Donna, Andrew, Mike and Gram Lil
