This is a blog intended to bring our family and friends closer by giving them an opportunity to participate in a web discussion. I am new to blogging, so I don't know where this is going to take us, but hey, it's the 21st Century. Peace

Day minus one

So, today is Mary's last chemo before the transplant. So far she has been on two-a-days and what days they've been. Due to constant fluid infusion she has gained over twenty pounds in the last five days. Her moon face is a sight to behold. I have a picture, but I don't really want to post it. I hope to keep it as a memory of tougher days when this is all past. I read the printout on today's chemo. It's definitely worse than any of those warnings you hear on TV. It looks like the worse is yet to come in five to ten days when the drug saps just about everything from the patient. It pains me to think about it. Regardless, Mary's harvested stem cells will be reintroduced to her tomorrow. That's the transplant and it is for all accounts a rather simple procedure done by the nurse practitioner. I'm taking the day off in case some great sign occurs like an eclipse or traffic stopping on the Eisenhower Expressway. Actually, I just want to be there for the event be it dramatic or sublime.
They say the grafting process takes about a week to ten days to take effect. It's like planting seeds, they need time to germinate and to grow. Doctor FunGuy says that the cells know where to go and that it just takes time. Unfortunately, the patient will be feeling her lowest during this most important process. I attribute it to the fact that the body is spending all of its energy on repairing itself. That's just my speculation, but I think I'm right. However, what's to be seen is yet to be seen.
Again, give me a call and I'll be happy to give you Mary's number. I know she loves knowing you are all thinking about her and offering up prayers for her and Nora and I appreciate the thoughts and prayers that include us.
Tomorrow is day Zero. The journey begins...
Love and Peace,
