I really couldn't resist posting on this day. A week ago we were in Florida visiting Carole and Daniel. We hadn't been there in a number of years and it was great to be back. The first couple of days we stuck pretty close to home: cooked, shopped and went to Costco to get them a new sound system to match their very cool HD flat screen. We found a Panasonic unit that was a little more money than we were planning, but it looks great, but more importantly, it sounds great. The rear speakers are wireless to the system so they can be moved to any room in the condo as an additional set of stereo speakers when listening to CDs. That's a very nice feature.
On Monday, we traveled to St. Augustine. We stayed in a B and B right on the bay. This is a very nice city. It's considered to be the oldest city in the country. The highlights included the dinners...oh yeah and the Flagler College and some of the museums and the fort. We saw a pod of seventeen Manatee the day we visited the fort. They Manatee were in the bay, not in the fort mind you.
Our trip back to Cape Coral was long due to traffic jams in Orlando and somewhere near Sarasota. That was a drag, but we managed to entertain each other with loud music and bad singing.
Friday morning Daniel and I took a fishing charter by kayak and I caught a huge redfish. That was the only fish of the day, but at least now I know how to fish in Florida. Our guide was a really nice guy. Daniel did not fish. He paddled around and really enjoyed the scenery. We saw a very large Osprey which swooped down right past my kayak. Man, big birds are big.
Brian and his boys came down for the day on Saturday. Actually, they got there late and we swam and ate and talked with them. They are great kids. Mary and I had not seen Tyler and Eric since they were in Junior High or so. They have grown to be very interesting boys. Jesse and Jordan were with us at Christmas, so it was great seeing them again. They are eight and eleven and a whole lotta fun.
We loved our stay, but we headed back home on Sunday, the first. Nora picked us up at O'Hare.
And other than a little trouble finding us in the garage, she did an excellent job.
Mary returned to chemo on Monday and that's just about it. She's doing very well. She looks good and "acts as if". I am very moved by her strength and by her positive nature. Her PET scan on the 13th will give us some indication of how well these treatments are working. Friday the thirteenth is also a contract negotiations day. Hmmm?
Got a few projects around the house I'm trying to get to, but I seem to be more interested in Mary, golf and the prospect of fishing than painting my fascia.
I guess I'm off for now...
Peace to you and to those you love.
Rob

This is the first time I've done this....would you say I'm a virgin?? Andrew has encouraged me to check your website to find out how Mother Mary is doing (and the rest of you Brookshire Dr. residents) so decided this lazy Saturday is the day. We are suffering from post grad party/family reunion syndrome. This is the first weekend we do not have to paint, stain, chop, pour or do anything!! Mike's grad party last Sat. (combined with the 11th annual Clark family reunion) was great -- temperature near 100 degrees (more beer, please!). Mike was the perfect host (who did he learn THAT from?) and many of his Hill-Murray buds, plus various assortments of parental friends, coworkers, etc., etc., showed up to celebrate. Less than 18 hrs. later we had a huge rainstorm; for this I'm eternally grateful to the rain god.....I could certainly deal with hot and humid but 100 people inside my newly painted and cleaned house would be waaay too much to handle. The last of the relatives drove off Sat. nite (Mary and Jim Hisler came for the fun on their way to visit David and family in Marshall) and we had a great reunion. Mike now has his thank-you's to prepare and mail....by now you should have received yours.
Want you to know we are thinking of you all, especially as we are slowly getting Mr. Mike ready for the "big" move to River Falls, about 20 min. away from Hudsontown. He has purchased his twin-xl bedsheets and dirty laundry pop up hamper so there is no looking back! His "new" ride arrived from Milwaukee -- a '97 Chevy Lumina that Andrew hooked him up with. Of course the engine light went on and Bruce did a perfect imitation of Bill Leonard on Thursday nite (ask Mary to explain!). Andrew put in a new air filter and fiddled with various parts of the car. He has a friend who will check it out (cash only, I understand) and the boys are off today to Sears to get a new battery, as the old one is 5 yrs. old. So Mike is now an official car owner.....I'm watching the grey hair as its growing out of the sides of my head.
Please let us know what's going on with Mary's treatment. Glad you were able to get away to FL and the family trip to CA should be good for you all. We are off acruisin for #11 on Aug. 4th -- this time western Carib. Never get tired of it.
My new e-mail is: cubfandonna@comcast.net
Bruce's less exciting e-mail is:
bwleonard@comcast.net
Hugs to you all.......
Donna

I have been able to infer that anonymous (the virgin) is Donna Leonard. We really enjoyed the posting. Tell Mike that Nora's school car is MY 1996 Lumina. (I think that it is interesting that Mike is a year younger, and his car is just a year newer.) Tell Mike, Bruce and Andy that Chevy assured me years ago that this is a good car for a "young" person since there are plenty of parts, and it's a pretty safe car for its time period. Bruce needs to have faith in Andy. One thing that Andy was always an expert on was cars (especially teachers' cars). As far as the Bill Leonard impression, the expression,"The apple doesn't fall far from the tree," seems to apply here. We can't escape! We are all somewhat products of our parents, and as we get older, that part of our inner selves is harder to control. Perhaps, this is what is meant by immortality.

So, what's the deal? What happened with the PET? I will keep hoping for good news.
