Spring, two days in a row...

Hey all who read this blog,
I have been waiting for spring and to my chagrin, it arrived on the day we were scheduled to attend our Steppenwolf play and then again on my first day back to school after Easter break.
A you may know, I sold my copper Pings, my driver and a copper putter on Ebay...exactly where I bought them in order to get my new set of fitted Ping G5s. I got to hit them at the range off the mat one Sunday and then I got to play them for a very quick nine before the cold front of the month arrived and didn't leave until yesterday. I took my clubs to Pennsylvania hoping to play at the DuBois Country Club and the weather never broke. So I'm looking outside and seeing a perfect day and I'm stuck in here. At least tonight I'll get to cut the grass. Whoopty-frickin'-do. No, actually grass is better than snow blowing.
The actual highlight of my day will hopefully be picking up my freshly painted truck. Before break I took it to MAACO and I got what I hope will be a very good deal. I upped from the base paint job to the next one up. The quality of paint sounded better and I will get a two year glossy guarantee. I'm not sure how much gloss I can take. It's an old truck and it's got lots of surface flaws, but not much rust. Originally I wanted to paint it John Deere green with yellow accents. Nora was not for it and she was pretty convincing. Actually, she oriented my thinking toward the point of eventual sale... Personally, I think I will drive this truck into the ground and that will be that. But I did decide to stick to factory red. I am getting a new tailgate as well. I'm thinking of putting Ford or Chevy on the back just to make people nuts. It's better than those brass balls I see hanging from F-250s and such. I will have to touch up the rust on the running boards and on the bumpers. I am also going to paint the rims...probably black. It should look great when it's done. I'll post some pics.

Easter was a nice holiday. Nora came in for a few days. Aunt Debbie came in from California on Good Friday. We ate, drank good wine and watched some shows. Mary, Debbie and I left for Grandma's house on Monday morning and Nora went back to school in the afternoon. Evidently she had no classes on Friday or Monday. She was returning to complete her pledging to Delta Chi Theta sorority. That's a long story that will require a separate post. Most importantly, she's done and is now an active member. The abuse has come to an end. I don't think she or we could have taken much more.

Grandma Bette's was fine. She was worried that we were there to ship her off to the home. We were not. We did do some rearranging of her closets and two bed rooms to make them a little more manageable. We did visit with Uncle Sam and Aunt Nancy and Tammy, Arnie, Haley and Brett, but we didn't see too many other relatives. There was a lot of accounting and bill paying. And for the most part we just did our thing with Bette and enjoyed our time. I actually read a book from cover to cover. If you know my reading habits, you know that that is a rarity. I usually have about ten books going at one time and it's really hard to get to the end of any one.
I read The Tipping Point. It was a social economics book kind of like Freakonomics. It talked about the social influences on trends or "epidemics" as the author called them. I got a lot out of the book. I may share more about it later.

School is still a struggle with negotiations up in the air and the basic incompetence of the Administration and the Board. I read an article about the Chicago Public Schools and how they have been dealing with technology. I was really impressed. At the end of the article it gave the credentials of the technology leadership. Every one had an advanced degree if not two. They had MBAs from Northwestern and DePaul, etc. or had thirty-plus years in education. Our situation is such that I don't think our CIO even has a college degree much less any experience in education. It's pretty frustrating. OK, that's it. Enough.

Hey, peace to you and to those you love.
Hope you're getting some of this beautiful spring weather.
Rob
